We are hockey people in a place where hockey is not really top of the list for most people. We enjoy the cold and the checking and the occasional on ice fight. Sara isn't as big of a fan - it has nothing to do with hockey itself she is just very afraid of loud noises and well hockey fans are obnoxious (not as obnoxious as the Boise Bronco football fans but that's for another post). The first hockey game she attended with us she shut down. All I heard was "mom, it is too loud, I'm scared" and she was out. A lady looked over and said "how cute, she fell asleep". No, I'm afraid it wasn't cute. She was so afraid the only way to handle it was to check out completely. Lesson learned on my part. We talked A TON about it afterwards and just recently she said she wanted to go to another hockey game. So we talked about it being loud and that there would be lots of lights flashing and people yelling...she still felt ready.
The first period and a half she held my hands over her ears but at least watched and by the second half of the second period you could hear her little voice yelling "GO STEELHEADS". It was music to her daddy's ears. FYI, they won and it was an awesome game.
